Course Plan & Goals
NTHU implements an adaptive approach to teaching and learning. The Center for English Education is committed to improving students' English competence and offers courses to strengthen students’ English skills, hoping to cultivate professionals with a cross-domain innovative leadership.
Required English Credits at NTHU
For undergraduates, eight credits must be taken. Four credits adopt the appropriate and homogeneous teaching mode, and the other four credits provide elective English courses in a wide variety of fields. The curriculum features adaptability and diversification.
Type A Courses (Required Adaptive course)
Students are required to take 4 credits in Type A. Students are divided into five levels, each with different course requirements. Each level of Type A is equivalent to several CEFR levels (A2, B1, B2, C1), providing different teaching materials, course content and evaluation methods for different learning needs.
Elementary (A2), Intermediate (B1), and Upper-intermediate (B2 & B2+) courses are offered by the Center for English Education (Course No.: LANG). Advanced (C1) courses are offered by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature (Course No.: FL).
Type B Courses (Diversified Elective course)
Students are required to take 4 credits in Type B. Taking different needs and proficiency in English learning into account, the center provides a wide diversity of elective courses in different professional fields.
The courses are adapted to meet the needs of students from different departments at NTHU, allowing them to become cross-domain innovative leadership talents.
